Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Stenciled Cobalt Federal Eagle Decoration, Stenciled "A.P. DONAGHHO, / PARKERSBURG, W.Va," circa 1875, ovoid jug with tooled shoulder and spout, featuring the crisply-stenciled design of a Federal eagle holding a banner, inscribed "Excelsior Pottery". Decorated above the bold-faced A.P. Donaghho maker's stenciling. Excellent color, coupled with some of the crispest eagle stenciling we have seen on an example of Donaghho stoneware. Missing handle. Spout chips. Brass fixture in spout, a remnant from when jug was used as a lamp. Minor chipping to shoulder molding.
