One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Shield Decoration, Stenciled "J. HAMILTON & CO. / GREENSBORO, PA.," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a large stenciled Federal shield and banner surrounding James Hamilton maker's stenciling, flanked by two stenciled daisies. 1" in-the-firing surface line from rim on reverse, not visible on interior. Small glazed-over ping to left side of jar. Later black crayon writing on underside.
