Exceptional Miniature Stoneware Pitcher with Cobalt Floral Decoration, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865-1885, delicately-potted ovoid pitcher with footed base and narrow collar, decorated on the front with a two-stemmed flowering plant design, and on each side with a brushed leaf. Collar decorated with brushed cobalt swags. Additional cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Outstanding size and finely-executed form, including a rounded molding at the base of the collar and tooled line below rim. One of the finest miniature Remmey pitchers we have seen. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor fifteen years ago. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with a raised, glazed-over iron spot on handle, and a dry area on side of pitcher, created when the piece was fired in the kiln on its side. H 4".
