Fine Large-Sized Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Cake Crock with Lid, attributed to the Remmey Pottery, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1865, cylindrical crock with heavily-tooled shoulder, ribbed lug handles, and two large tulips decorating both sides. Handles decorated with brushed cobalt highlights and a wavy cobalt line underneath. The lid is one of the finer examples of an American stoneware lid we have ever offered, featuring five tulips, heavy swags, and cobalt around the knob. Crock in excellent condition with a small rim chip, a minor iron ping to rim, and some light exfoliation to underside. Lid with a rim chip, some rim nicks, and heavy chipping to flange on underside. Diameter (across top of crock) 11 3/4" ; H (excluding lid) 6 3/4".
