Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Large Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, Stamped "FORT EDWARD POTTERY CO.," New York State origin, circa 1859, cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with a very large, slip-trailed design of a long-tailed bird perched on a stump with ground cover below. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Old restoration to areas of spout and area below spout. 8" vertical hairline at midsection on reverse. 2 1/4" line to shoulder on reverse, possibly in-the-firing. One base chip.
