Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Starburst Decoration, Stamped "H.M. WHITMAN / HAVANA, NY," circa 1860-1862, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a flower blossom surrounded by six rays. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A visually-stunning design with excellent color. A thin crack on shoulder, extending from left side of churn's front around left side to reverse. A chip to inner rim for lid.
