Rare Five-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Deer and Tree Decoration, Stamped "J. BURGER JR. / ROCHESTER, NY," circa 1885, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, flared collar, and applied lug handles, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a deer with heavily-detailed body and large rack, trotting beside a tree. Slip-trailed "5" to right of maker's mark. Churn broken into pieces and restoration, including restoration extending through decoration. Cobalt remains mostly untouched, with some cracks visible through decoration.
