Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration and Lid, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, Philadelphia, PA, circa 1870, ovoid jar with tall collar and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with a brushed flowering plant bearing drooping blossoms. Additional swag decoration at the shoulder. Brushed cobalt circles to handle terminals and dashes below each handle. Includes a swag-decorated lid, attributed to Richard C. Remmey, but probably not original to this jar. Jar with a chip and nick to one handle, as well as a rim chip. Lid with dryness and discoloration to surface, chips to edge, and a few chips to flange on underside.
