Rare Eight-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Bold Cobalt Star-in-Wreath Decoration and Molded Handles, Stamped "E.W. FARRINGTON & CO. / ELMIRA. NY," circa 1890, ovoid churn with flared collar and applied molded handles with raised foliate motifs and faux screwhead terminals. Front of churn lavishly-decorated with a heavily-brushed star surrounded by leafy accents and a large wreath. Heavy cobalt highlights to handles. Excellent size, form, color, and decoration. The highly-unusual molded handles add rarity and decorative appeal. Includes Albany-slip-glazed lid. Crack extending 12 3/4" down reverse of churn and 8 3/4" onto underside. 2 1/2" Y-shaped surface line on reverse. 1 3/4" and 1 1/2" hairlines from rim on front. 3/4" chip on front of churn. Small rim chip on side of churn. Heavy wear to inner rim where a lid would rest. Lid with thin crack and chipping to top edge of lid.
