Scarce Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Flower Basket Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT.," circa 1855, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of an open-handled basket brimming with flowers, leaves, and dotted trails. Some fry to cobalt. 5 3/4" hairline from rim. Wire around rim. Tight lines to shoulder / midsection area on reverse. A tight X-shaped and vertical line under left handle, not visible on interior. Small chip to one handle. Minor iron ping to opposite handle. Some small chips and nicks to rim. Staining to surface.
