Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Freehand and Stenciled Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "HAMILTON & JONES / GREENSBORO. PA," circa 1875, ovoid pitcher with tall collar and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a stenciled vine design surrounding Hamilton and Jones maker's stenciling. Freehand straight and wavy stripes to body of pitcher. Tall collar nicely-decorated with two freehand tulips flanking a heavily-dashed spout. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor's father in the 1950s or 1960s. Small chip to exterior of rim. Shallow 5/8" chip on interior of rim. Minor nick on interior of spout, possibly in-the-firing. Some extremely minor nicks on interior of rim on reverse. H 11".
