Rare Slip-Decorated Redware Plate, Inscribed "Buy me Mary," Norwalk, CT origin, circa 1840, with coggled edge, the interior decorated with the folksy yellow slip inscription, "Buy me Mary," along with small flourishes above and below. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a long-term Midwestern collection. Plate once broken into two pieces with sturdy stapled repair visible on reverse. An additional 5 1/4" hairline from edge. A rim chip and two minor edge nicks visible on reverse. Slip decoration survives in excellent condition. Diameter 11 1/4".
