One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT," circa 1855, cylindrical jug with tapered spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched atop a stylized branch. 4 1/2" tight vertical hairline on reverse. Dry spot to right of bird. A small contact mark at shoulder and base. Tiny nick to spout. Very faint line extending across underside.
