Exceptional Three-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Cobalt Paddletail Bird Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & SON / UTICA, NY," circa 1885, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed design of a very large bird with ring-necked neck, crest, and paddle-shaped tail, perched on an elaborate flowering vine. A visually-striking example with outstanding size and detail to decoration. Restoration to rim. Chip to one handle and wear to end of same handle. 2 1/2" hairline from rim on reverse. 1 3/4" hairline above handle on side of churn. Some small spots of light wear to decoration.
