Rare Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Double Face Jug, Signed "Lanier Meaders," Cleveland, GA origin, circa 1965-1975, ovoid jug with applied double handles, the surface covered in a visually-appealing, olive alkaline glaze with brown streaks throughout. Front and reverse decorated with hand-modeled and applied faces. Both faces feature crooked eyes and slanted mouths with rock teeth. One face looks suspiciously to the right, while the other looks head on. Ears on both sides having piercings. Incised on underside "Lanier Meaders". A fine and early example by the esteemed Georgia folk potter. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, consigned from the Northeastern U.S. Excellent, as-made condition with some possible in-the-firing damage to parts of the two left teeth on one side.
