Fine One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration and Cobalt 1823 Date, Old Bridge, NJ, ovoid jar with footed base, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a deeply-incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a flower or seed pod hanging from a stem with heavily-veined leaves. Reverse with brushed cobalt date "1823" underscored by cobalt accents. Additional cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent color, form, and decoration. 9 1/2" vertical L-shaped crack on front, extending onto underside, where it forms an X. This crack also continues from X on the underside 2 1/2" onto base, visible on the jar's right side. Base chips. Shallow 1 1/2" in-the-firing on top of rim. 1" chip above one handle. An additional small rim chip.
