Rare One-and-a-Half-Gallon Lidded Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Lion Face Decoration, Stamped "W A MACQUOID & CO / POTTERY WORKS / LITTLE WST 12TH ST. N.Y.," circa 1870, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt design of a lion's face with beard. Includes original salt-glazed lid. Excellent condition with only minor flaws; a nick to one handle, a small base chip, a minor 3/4" surface line at base on reverse, a minor 3/4" surface line to rim on reverse, and an in-the-firing line on interior of rim area, only partially visible on exterior. Lid with numerous minor nicks to edge, one nick to knob, and some faint, minor surface lines.
