Outstanding Four-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "F. STETZENMEYER / ROCHESTER, NY," circa 1850, ovoid jug with tapered spout, decorated with an artistically slip-trailed floral design, featuring an over-sized tulip blossom with spotted interior and heavily-shaded petals and leaves. Excellent color and crisp, bold slip trailing. Salt drip to side of jug. Slip-trailed "4" to shoulder. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. A visually-stunning example by one of New York State's premiere potters. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with an unobtrusive contact mark to front and a 3 1/4" salt drip to right side of jug.
