Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "T. HARRINGTON / LYONS," New York State origin, circa 1860, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a heavily slip-trailed design of a bird perched on a leafy branch. Slip-trailed "2." to right of bird. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Bird decorations by this desirable New York State maker are quite unusual. Excellent condition with a rim chip and two small base chips, one of which is glazed over.
