Exceptional Two-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, Stamped "H.C. SMITH / ALEXA. / D.C.," circa 1830, highly ovoid pitcher with rim molding and applied strap handle, decorated with a series of bold brushed cobalt chain links and hanging ferns. Collar additionally decorated with large chain links. Excellent color. An outstanding example in size, decoration, and condition. Alexandria, VA stoneware is extremely difficult to find in this condition. Excellent condition with a tiny spout chip. H 13 1/2".
