Very Rare Stoneware Churn with Fine Cobalt Decoration of a Standing Doe, Stamped "OTTMAN BRO'S. / & CO. / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.," circa 1880, ovoid churn with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated large slip-trailed design of a doe with turned head, standing atop a detailed ground with shrubs. Very nice detail to doe with heavily-striped shading to the body and neck, and solid cobalt to the face. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark. An outstanding decoration on an impressive, large-sized churn form. Decorations of female deer are much rarer than stags. Series of tight lines to churn's front. 8" line on reverse and a 4 3/4" inverted Y-shaped line on reverse. A minor chip and minor nick on interior of rim. Some light staining to base area.
