Very Rare Half-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Elaborate Cobalt House Scene, Stamped "WEST TROY / N.Y. / POTTERY," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with brushed cobalt design of a house atop a hill flanked by three pine trees. Base and sides of hill further embellished with brushed cobalt shrubs and ground cover. Excellent and highly unusual design covering most of the crock's front. The rarity of this example is compounded by the scarce small size of the pot. Professionally-restored cracks to body of crock and underside, with some touch-up to decoration not affecting the house itself. Two 1 1/4" hairlines at base.
