Fine "The Original Package" Stoneware Pig Flask with Elaborate Incised Map, Signed and Dated "By the Anna Pottery / 1891," Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, molded in the form of a reclining pig with hole at rear and incised details to face and hooves, one side incised with the inscription "St. Louis the future Great / With a little good old Rye in / The Original Package (line pointing to pig's rear) / By the / Anna Pottery / 1891". Remainder of pig covered with a large incised map of the Midwest, including the following landmarks: Chicago the World's Fair City, Rock Island, Cairo, M & O, Hodges Park, Jonesboro, Alto, Murphysboro, Gd Tower, Ava, Chester, Purry, Pinckville, Belleville, O & M, C & A, Springfld, Decature, Bloomington, Tonica, Casalle, Dunleth, Chester, CV&C, Cincinnati, Pullman, Kankakee, Champagne, Vincennes, Odin, I.C.RR, Centralia, Tamaroa, Duquoin, Carbondale, Anna, Mounds, and Mound City. Surface covered in a chocolate-brown Albany slip glaze. One of the finer late-period Anna pig we have offered, including signature and excellent incising. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, which descended in Midwestern family. Excellent condition with some minor nicks to spout. L 7".
