Rare Small-Sized Stoneware Jug with Incised Foliate Decoration, attributed to Clarkson Crolius, Sr., Manhattan, NY, early 19th century, finely-potted ovoid jug with rounded foot and heavily-tooled spout, the front decorated with a large, and crisply-incised foliate, filled with cobalt slip. Cobalt accents to handle terminals and unusual cobalt circle below bottom terminal. Excellent decoration and highly unusual size. Professionally-restored handle. Professional touch-up to cobalt on right leaf of incising. Some small stone pings and contact marks to surface, typical of early Northeastern U.S. Base chip. Glazed-over line around section of base, a flaw typical of early Northeastern U.S. stoneware. H 8 3/4".
