Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar, Stamped "E S FOX -- ATHENS," New York State origin, circa 1840, ovoid jar with lug handles and tooling to shoulder and rim, decorated with two large, heavily-brushed cobalt flower blossoms extending from a curved stem. Thin 6 1/2" vertical crack under one handle, extending onto underside and 1" up opposite side. Area of exfoliation to base on one side under one handle. Light exfoliation to underside. 2 3/4" separation line on interior, not visible on exterior. Some small areas of fry to cobalt.
