Scarce One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Bowl with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "MASON & RUSSELL / CORTLAND," circa 1835-1839, ovoid bowl with tooled shoulder and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed cobalt tulip beside the cobalt inscription "1 1/2". Brushed cobalt highlights over maker's mark. Unusual form. Some bubbling to cobalt. Two very tight hairlines from rim on reverse. Small rim chip with 1 3/4" horizontal line extending through it on reverse. A tiny base nick on front and back. H 6" ; Diameter 10 1/2".
