Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Pheasant Decoration, Stamped "J. & E. NORTON / BENNINGTON, VT.," circa 1855, cylindrical jug with sloped shoulder and semi-squared spout, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a long-tailed pheasant with turned head, perched on a tree stump. Overall very nice condition. Glazed-over base chip on reverse. Two other very small, glazed-over base chips. In-the-firing crack in base of handle. 1" wrinkle in clay on front. Wear to interior of spout.
