Fine Half-Gallon Redware Jug with Slip Decoration, Galena, IL origin, second half 19th century, cylindrical jug with rounded shoulder, applied strap handle, and distinctive wide spout with tooling. Surface covered in a lead glaze over a mottled pale green and orange ground. Dipped slip decoration visible on spout, shoulder, handle, side and reverse. Exceptional color on this example. Restored 1 1/2" section to side of handle near spout. Restored base chip. 7/8" in-the-firing contact mark near shoulder. A few other very minor spots of glaze wear to base of handle and spout.
