Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Batter Pail, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid pail with tubular pouring spout and metal-and-wood bail handle, decorated with a large spitting tulip on the reverse and heavy foliate brushwork around the spout. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, consigned from Washington State. Some fry to cobalt on reverse. Two chips to spout. 1" hairline in spout. Chip to rim. 1 3/4", 1 1/2", and 1" hairlines from rim. H 7 7/8".
