Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Exuberant Cobalt Wreath Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG, PA," circa 1865, ovoid pail with flattened rim, short and wide tubular spout, and original metal-and-wood bail handle. Decorated with a large floral wreath consisting of numerous leafy swags and flower buds, the base featuring an unusual bow. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, recently found in New England. Excellent condition with a few shallow rim chips and a contact mark to left of spout. H 8 1/4".
