Rare Hancock County, West Virginia Sewer Tile Spaniel Doorstop, Signed "Moulded by / E. Johnston. / Penrith W. Va. / April 10 / 1897," molded in the form of a seated spaniel with incised details to face, hair, paws, and collar, incised with maker's signature between two front legs. The maker of the spaniel, E. Johnston, is possibly a relative of the stoneware potter, George Johnston of Clarksburg, WV. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example found in Texas. Excellent condition. H 7 6/8".
