Exceedingly Rare and Important Stoneware Cream Jar, Signed and Dated in Cobalt Script "Henry Glazier / 1852," Huntingdon, PA origin, approximately one to one-and-a-half-gallon ovoid jar with tooled shoulder and semi-squared rim, boldly signed around the entire body "Henry Glazier 1852". Examples bearing Glazier's stamped signature are considered rare and highly desirable. This jar is the only example we have seen bearing Glazier's signature penned by his own hand in cobalt slip. One of the most significant recent discoveries in Huntingdon County, PA stoneware. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, which descended in a Philadelphia, PA family to the consignor. Numerous rim chips. Diagonal crack extending up from base. 2" hairline extending up from base. Cracks in underside, including a reglued wedge. A few small base chips. H 9" ; Diameter 9".
