Four-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON / & CO. / GREENSBORO . PA," circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and ribbed lug handles, decorated with freehand stripes at the shoulder and base, elaborate stenciling to the midsection, and a bold number 4 flanked by stenciled flourishes at the base. In-the-firing 1 1/2" chipped section to bottom edge. 4" hairline from rim on reverse. Faint and minor line on underside, which appears to be in-the-firing and extends 1/2" onto base.
