Rare Rockingham Presentation Pitcher with Inscription, South Amboy, NJ origin, Dated 1886, the pitcher with raised anchor and ancanthus leaf motif flanking the applied name "WILLIAM SHELLARD", the white-glazed interior with applied open-mouthed frog below the rim. Underside signed in incised script, "T. Regan / To / Will Shellard / 1886 / Sept. 31". A fine example of New Jersey rockinghamware. Provenance: From a forty-year private collection. Purchased by the consignor in 1977. Small chips on interior of rim. 2 1/2" hairline from rim. Minor wear to high points at base. Loss to two of frog's toes.
