Scarce Five-Gallon Stoneware Churn with Large Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "N.A. WHITE & CO. / BINGHAMTON," NY State origin, circa 1866-1868, finely-potted ovoid churn with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, decorated with a large slip-trailed design of a crested bird perched on flowering branch. Bird is depicted with turned head, striped breast, and cross-hatched wing. Excellent form and color. Includes Albany-slip-glazed stoneware lid. Excellent, as-made condition with two small stone pings to side of churn. Minor chip to interior of rim where a lid would rest. Three minor chips to lid.
