Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Rooster Decoration, Stamped "W.H. FARRAR & CO. / GEDDES, NY," circa 1860, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a folky slip-trailed design of a rooster with striped neck and breast, heavily-shaded wing, and large plumed tail, strutting atop a stylized ground accented with wavy lines and spots. Rim chips. 5/8" stone ping to reverse of rim. Spidering hairlines and cracks to left and right of rooster. Some faint surface lines to reverse. Wear to interior of rim where a lid would rest, along with some flecks off Albany slip on interior walls. H 11".
