Very Rare Anna Pottery Stoneware Centennial Pig Bottle, Signed "By / Anna Pottery . Anna Ills. / 1876," Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, molded Albany-slip-glazed bottle in the form of a pig with hand-modeled and incised face, painted eyes, and hole at rear. Incised with rare Centennial inscription on one side, which reads "St. Louis the future Capital / Latest and Only Reliable / Centennial / Railroad and River Guide / By / Anna Pottery . Anna Ills.". Remainder of pig incised with a railroad map of the Midwest, including the following landmarks: Miss River, C A & St. L. R.R., O & M R.R., C & St. L. R.R., C & V RR, Murphysboro, Kaolin, Grand Tower, Jonesboro, Vincens, mounds, Chicago the Corn City, Cincinnati the Pork City, Anna the Jug City, and Cairo (incised in an unusual telescoping font). The early manufacture date, use of the inscription "Centennial," and elaborate signature "Anna Pottery . Anna Ills," are all rare attributes of this pig. A particularly fine example. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, which descended in a Missouri family. Near mint condition with a small nick to spout. L 7".
