Rare Five-Gallon Camden, PA Stoneware Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Eagle, Greensboro, PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical jar with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with freehand stripes and a large stenciled eagle holding a banner, which reads "EAGLE POTTERY". Stenciled advertising below reads "LYSLE BAILEY & CO. / CAMDEN, PA" and is flanked by graduated dashes. The advertising refers to a prominent coal mining and merchant firm operating out of Camden, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania--on the Monongahela River, near McKeesport. A few long hairlines to surface. A short hairline from rim. A restored chip to each handle. H 16".
