Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Abstract Bird Decoration, Stamped "F.B. NORTON & CO. / WORCESTER, MASS.," circa 1875, cylindrical jug with squared spout, decorated with a highly unusual slip-trailed design of a bird in walking stance with ringed neck and looping wing detail. This design is highly unusual among pieces made at the Frank B. Norton pottery. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example from a Maine collection assembled during the 1980s. Crack at base of handle. Two spout chips. Some wear to cobalt. H 11 1/2".
