Rare and Fine Anna Pottery Pig Bottle with Incised Map, Moon, and "Black Hills" Inscription, Dated 1884, Wallace and Cornwall Kirkpatrick, Anna, IL, molded bottle in the form of a pig with hole at rear and incised details to face and hooves, incised on one side with the following inscription: "Shortest Quickest Cheapest and / Only Safe & reliable route to California and the Black hills cal- / with a little good old Rye in / 1884." Underside incised with a map including the following landmarks: St. Louis Kansas City and Northern Railway, Sidney, cheyenne, Black Hills, hot spring, omaha, Kansas City, and St. Louis. Reverse incised with a highly unusual crescent moon. One of the finest Anna pigs we have offered in recent years, and the first we have offered featuring the significantly rarer "Black Hills" inscription. Near mint condition with a very minor nick to opening at rear. L 6 1/2".
