Rare Two-Gallon Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Jug with Kaolin Slip Floral Decoration, attributed to Collin Rhodes, Edgefield, SC, circa 1850, highly ovoid jug with tooled spout, the surface covered in an olive-colored alkaline glaze, and decorated with a kaolin slip flower on each side. Each flower consists of a leafy stem and scalloped blossom, with long vertical trail extending through and above the flower. A number "2" is slip-trailed below the spout, surrounded by a daisy head. Decoration, glaze, and form, are all consistent with the Edgefield, SC master potter, Collin Rhodes. Excellent condition with a small fleck of slip missing from right flower, light wear to top of spout, and a dent at edge on underside. H 13".
