Scarce Four-Gallon Stoneware Churn, Stenciled "RICHEY & HAMILTON / PALATINE / W.VA.," circa 1875, cylindrical churn with tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and rounded rim, decorated with freehand cobalt stripes, stenciled flowers, and a stenciled sunburst design surrounding the number "4". A well-decorated example of Palatine stoneware. Provenance: From a Western MD collection. Excellent condition with a glazed-over handle chip and some minor chips on interior ledge where a lid would rest. H 17".
