Outstanding One-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "B.C. MILBURN / ALEXA," VA origin, circa 1845, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied tab handles, decorated with a large brushed cobalt flowering plant design, culminating in a circular blossom flanked by leaves. Shoulder decorated with cobalt chain links. Reverse decorated with a large vertical floral design. Milburn stoneware with heavy vertical decoration on both sides is unusual. A fine example of Alexandria pottery. 3/4" glazed-over base chip. Other small base chips. Several chips to one handle. Small chip to opposite handle. Rim chip. H 10 1/4".
