Multi-Glazed Redware Washbowl, attributed to J. Eberly & Co., Strasburg, VA, circa 1890, with applied soap dish, the rim ornamented with scrolled strips of clay flanked by balls of clay, the ribbed strap handles girded by a ball of clay at rear and screw head terminal at the front. Surface decorated with splashed copper and manganese over cream-colored slip, and covered in clear lead glaze. A desirable Shenandoah Valley form. Excellent color. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example consigned from VA. Damage and glaze loss to soap dish. Chips to scrollwork. 1 1/2" chip to exterior of rim and a shallow 1 1/4" chip to interior of rim. 3/4" rim chip on reverse. Glaze wear to handles, rim, and interior base. Glaze wear to foot of bowl. Small fleck of glaze loss to body on reverse. Diameter 14 3/4".
