Ovoid Stoneware Canning Jar with Freehand Cobalt Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1875, large-sized canning jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim with "wax sealer" interior. Front of jar decorated with brushed cobalt vining and straight and wavy stripes. Provenance: From a thirty-five year Western PA collection. Heavy chipping to interior of rim. Two chips to exterior of rim. In-the-firing chips to underside. In-the-firing 1 1/2" vertical separation line at base on side of jar. Two contact marks to front. H 9 1/2".
