Extremely Rare Pair of Quart-Sized Stoneware Jugs with Impressed Drape Decoration, attributed to Thomas Warne & Joshua Letts, South Amboy, NJ, early 19th century, small-sized, ovoid jugs with heavily-tooled spouts, each decorated with an impressed, saw-toothed Federal drape motif at the shoulder. One jug features cobalt highlights to the impressed drape and handle terminals. The other features reddish-brown iron-oxide or manganese highlights to the impressed drape and handle terminals. Exceptional sizes, the smallest of any vessel that we have seen produced by this potting firm, each with a different slip treatment popular to this operation. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market lot, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Cobalt-decorated jug in excellent condition with a faint 2 1/2" line to spout / shoulder and a shallow in-the-firing flake to top of spout. Brown-slip-decorated jug with a faint 3" line to spout / shoulder, extending through a small in-the-firing ping, the spout with a tiny nick and minor wear. H (of cobalt-decorated jug) 7".
