Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Impressed Swag-and-Tassel Decoration, Stamped "COMMERAWS / STONEWARE" and "CORLEARS / HOOK / N. YORK," circa 1810, ovoid jar with tooled foot, heavily-tooled shoulder, and applied loop handles, decorated with a series of impressed and cobalt-highlighted swag-and-tassel design on the front and back. Firmly stamped "COMMERAWS / STONEWARE" and "CORLEARS / HOOK / N. YORK" on opposing sides. This example exhibits exceptional coloration for Commeraw stoneware, with a light gray clay body and dark cobalt highlights. Missing one handle. Heavy chipping to base. 5 1/4" hairline from rim. Other short faint lines in rim area. Cracks in underside, extending onto base area. Small rim chips. H 11 1/2".
