Exceptional Pint-Sized Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Bird-on-Stump Decoration, New York State origin, circa 1875, semi-ovoid jug with rounded spout and applied handle, decorated with a slip-trailed cobalt design of a bird perched on a heavily-shaded tree stump, with shrubs at the base and a tree in the distance to the left. An unusually-elaborate decoration for a jug of this size. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example from a Maine collection assembled during the 1980s. As-made condition with fry to cobalt at base.
