Rare Glazed Stoneware Lion, Incised on Underside "DAN OMEGA / THOMAS / THOMASTOWN / DEC 13 1893, molded figure of a reclining lion on oval base, decorated with cream and tan colored glazes. The rare inscription of the underside refers to potter, Dan Omega Thomas, who made the figure when he was sixteen years old in Thomastown, Ohio. Thomastown was part of the Akron area, where several of Thomas's relatives were also employed at potteries. Minor 1" line at base on reverse. In-the-firing 4" hairline on top of base. Additional 3/4" line in base. Small base chips. H 4 1/2" ; Length 6 3/4".
