Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, attributed to Stephen B. Sweeney, Henrico Co., VA, circa 1860, ovoid jar with squared rim and applied lug handles, decorated on the front and back with a large brushed cobalt floral design with looping blossom. Impressed "2" at shoulder. Attribution to Sweeney based on research by Robert Hunter and Kurt Russ. Thin 4" spidering crack extending from rim to end of one handle. Otherwise excellent condition. H 12".
