Ovoid Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Foliate Decoration, attributed to William Nichols, Poughkeepsie, NY, circa 1825, approximately two-gallon ovoid jar with tall collar and ribbed lug handles, decorated front and back with a cobalt fan-shaped foliate design flanked by X's. Small base chips, some of which are glazed over. Several cracks near base on one side, two of which extend onto underside. Small rim chips. 3" separation from rim on interior, visible as a 2" hairline on exterior. 2 1/4" flake to one handle. H 10 1/2".
